We love learning about the alphabet at momstown Edmonton! This month we looked at the letter "N" during Alphabet Play. After talking about the letter N and its sounds, we started our "N is for Night" craft. Each kid was given a lower and uppercase N that they decorated with stars using white chalk. Then, they glued them down and spread around some glitter glue. Finally, they glued down a round piece of foil for the moon! Fine motor skills are so important, so we also played with some home made play dough and alphabet pasta. It was a hit! Both mamas and kids were huge fans of the soft (and yummy smelling) play dough! It was as close to the real thing as you could get, yet without any yucky chemicals! Want to make it with your own kids? Check out the recipe below (adapted from here):
Easy No Cook Play Dough
Ingredients:
- 2 cups white flour
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water (adding more as needed)
- one Jello powder box
- Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar, and oil in a large mixing bowl
- Add the Jello to the boiling water and then pour into the large bowl
- Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky, combined dough
- Let cool! Take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until it isn't sticky. This might take a while! Keep at it until it's just right. If it remains a little sticky then add a small amount of flour until it isn't!
- PLAY! (It should last 2-3 weeks in a closed container.)
