What's so different about Summer Cool School?

We talked to a local teen to find out:

What program did you take at Cool School?
  • I've taken summer math, language arts, as well as a science course through the summer.
What are some of your favourite things about the program?
  • They didn't give out text books and tell you to learn it on your own. Smaller classes meant there was more one on one time with the teacher. My math teacher during summer school was more caring and respectful than other teachers. She took the time to go through the answers and make sure I understood the concepts.
What makes Cool School different from your regular Monday to Friday schooling?
  • There's not so much of the high school atmosphere, so it was easier to focus on the material. There was a lot more discussion and hands on learning!
"Cool school finds cool ways to teach!" - Marissa, 15

What are the benefits of Cool School from a mom's perspective?

What did you think of the teachers at Cool School?

  • Marissa will tell you that she meet some really great teachers in Cool School. There were some great English and Math teachers that gave her a lot more confidence. One wonderful teacher I got to know was Angela Ostafichuk for Photography who is a professional photographer as well as a teacher. Marissa still loves taking photos today. Angela helped her refine her talent and fueled this fire and confidence that I am sure will last her a lifetime. Another amazing thing Angela did was also ask Marissa to volunteer as a helper in the photography class for younger students. This was a really fulfilling experience for Marissa. She loved it. It made her very happy.
How did you find Cool School different from regular school?
  • From what Marissa tells me there is more of DOING and discussion in Cool School than regular school. The more creative and hands-on the learning is, the better. Compared to just reading about it, any experience you live by doing is easier to remember and gives you a better understanding of something.
Would you enroll your child again?
  • Marissa's first Cool School classes were Grade 8 Math and English. We have signed Marissa up to many more classes since. She has taken Math and English summer preparation for Grade 9 as well as photography. During the year she is taking Grade 9 Science. At the end of the month she will be taking all the Grade 9 PAP Test preparation course. Yes, it has been an investment and we would do it again.
